Where Luther translated the bible: Wartburg

For translation please use the Google Translate Button my site.

Exactly 500 years ago (1521/1522) Luther translated the Bible from Latin and Greek into German while hiding in this castle at Eisenach, Germany. In those times no uniform German language existed, only many dialects. With Luther’s translation the Holy Script became not only accesible to a wider public but he also laid the grounds for standard German.

This is for Debbie’s Six Word Saturday. Thank you Debbie for hosting.

Always looking forward to your feedback

  1. Thank you. The Luther house in Eisenach was very interesting too, especially the permanent exhibition about Luther‘s translations of the bible. I am going to post about my visit.
