Japanese Shrines: Torii

When I was traveling through Japan in March/April 2019 I visited countless temples. To enter a shinto shrine you usually have to pass through a torii. I adored those simple but very elegant structures.

A Torii is a traditional Japanese gate only found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred.
